Hello and welcome to Wheatgrass and Wine! I’m Jessica – the voice behind the recipes.
I’m a professional chef, amateur photographer, avid student of nutrition and an American living in France. Wheatgrass and Wine is about finding balance in the kitchen – a lot of good and a little naughty makes for a healthy body and a happy soul!
For 12 years I worked as a chef within the mega-yachting industry. Besides the long hours, demanding clients and occasional seasickness it is a chef’s dream. There is no budget. No bottom line. The world is our oyster. Or foie gras… Or caviar…. You name it! No penny is spared, no request is too outrageous. And the kitchen was all mine- which gave me a lot of time to try out and develop recipes!
But 4 years ago I became a mother and now I have two beautiful little girls. My sailing days are over (and another business begun). But my recipes are not gone. What has changed is that now when I cook I think about how every ingredient may affect the health of my family. My girls and handsome husband are more important to me than any high-end client I have ever cooked for. I feel it is my responsibility as a mum not only to fill their bellies but to nourish them.
Extremism, however, has never suited me! I feel it stunts my creativity and I enjoy red wine and the occasional lamb chop way too much to be a health-food-extremist! What is the point in trying to extend our lives if we can’t enjoy them a bit too? So, my philosophy behind Wheatgrass and Wine is like ours at home here in France – if you eat as healthy as you can 5 days a week then you can indulge a bit on the weekends. Ying and Yang. Balance. Cheers!
